I have explored three agencies on the national/federal levels. The first agency that I chose is the agency that I
already work for, the name of the agency is CAP or Community Action Project of
Tulsa. My agencies mission is to improve the economics of very young low income
children and their families. We provide many
different services from early childhood education to career advance
opportunities for the parents of children who are enrolled in our program. I am
an early childhood teacher within the agency, but I am interested in an
instructional coach position. This position basically teaches teachers to best
the most effective teacher that they can be.
The second organization is the American Heart Association, this organization empowers individual's to live a healthy life. The organization advocates for getting healthy and staying healthy, they teach about stress management, there is information about how to quit smoking, and how to implement those healthy lifestyle for the children and the family as a whole. The job that I would be interested in is called Health Equity Specialist, they basically provide awareness and education on how to stay healthy and lead a healthier life.
The third organization is American Academy of Pediatrics, this organization is dedicated to the well-being of young children and adolescents. There are numerous articles on various topics like child health and family health. The organizations also lists numerous resources that are available for families and other individual's. The American Academy of Pediatrics did not have any job posting, its' an organization that you can become a member of those types of opportunities are available, there is even an opportunity to subscribe to the subscriptions they have to offer.
I chose these agencies because they are all about the families. Helping the
family is the first line of defense in helping the children, because if we are able to
help the parents by educating them on what healthy is and pointing them in the right direction by
offering them the resources that will help them and their family. This I think in turn
will benefit the communities for which they live because they will be able to be
a more healthier productive member of society
I also chose the America Heart Association. I was surprised at just how many different areas they educated others on. I loved that they focus on providing resources and the teaching parents and children and the community how to make healthy choices. The instructional coach position is interesting. I think this is something I would like to do as well. Thanks for the great information!
ReplyDeleteHello LaRoyia!
ReplyDeleteI almost chose the same organization as you. Thanks for choosing them and sharing their background. I like the American Heart Association. It's important that we learn how to keep ourselves healthy as educators. I tell you.....this last course has really brought on a bit of stress. I believe that I am running out of GAS. Maybe I should read into the Heart Association site to learn ways to keep myself healthy. Stress surely can lead to many other health conditions. This would be a great resource to share with my students and families for my newsletter. It's great to pass on information that can benefit children and families. Thanks for the resources! best wishes for the remainder of our course!

Hi LaRoyai,
ReplyDeleteThe American Heart Association is near and dear to my heart because they helped me so much when my father died suddenly of an heart attack at age 56. It was their support and education concerning the heart that kept me going. It is truly amazing all of the work they do outside of the heart education they provide. I like the instructional coach position and it sounds like this is something that is truly needed with the rise of obesity in the nation. Thank you so much for wonderful information.

Hey LaRoyia,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your organizations with the class. I enjoy seeing people utilize agencies that deal with early childhood on another level other than just quality education. I like that you chose 3 distinctly different organizations that truly are supportive of all families and can be of great assistance when in dire need. All of these organizations I would love to learn more information about based on what you presented and I thank you for that. Great blog!

Hi LaRoyia,
ReplyDeleteI did some research into the help of the American Heart Association this week to assist another college with resources for her challenge. In doing so I found such great and helpful information about exercise in children and creative and fun ways that parents and teacher scan encourage more psychical activity in kids to keep them healthy. Such a great resource for families!
