The website that I have been exploring is Zero to Three. The section that caught my attention was the Behavior and Development section . I read information on Early Childhood mental health, this is current in my development as a professional because it has only deepened my understanding of the importance for children to have social emotional skills. This section talked about how important it is for children to build relationships with others, communicate, play, and learn how to express their feelings. I really didn't find anything that was controversial, but I did read information that helped me think about an issue in a new way, assessments of children.
The website explains what an assessment is and what it is supposed to do and that is to deepen their understanding of a child's developmental capacities. The website actually publishes a guide for parents to read that will help them understand what is going on and also encourages them to collaborate. I think these assessments are how neuroscientist support Early Childhood because it gives educators better ammunition to help children succeed. The website and newsletter has an abundance of helpful information for parents and educators that will educate them on how to help their children.
LaRoyia do you believe that play is as important as it has been in the past. Do you think our schools and administration have become so caught up on test scores and have forgotten that children still need to play and learn how to interact with other children.
ReplyDeleteLaRoyia,
ReplyDeleteDo you have a curriculum that you use to teach social-emotional skills? We use the Second Step Curriculum. I also refer to the Center on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning (CSEFEL). They are two great resources.
LaRoyia,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. I too read a lot about play in the website newsletter that I chose. It is very evident that there is plenty of research supporting play and what socio emotional benefits as well as physical brain development advantages play can have in children's lives. What can large organizations do in order to influence the introduction and sustenance of play time and play curriculum throughout the growing ages of children? It seems like we are now voicing the importance through media publications and information but do you think the same knowledge and voice is reaching decision-makers?
I think that organizations should start measuring their roles in policy making and publish that information so that their credibility and value increases and that they are channeling their thoughts to make the right impact. Is that feasible according to you?
Thanks,
Divya
